Music, signage and atmosphere influence how long customers stay, how they feel, and how they perceive a brand.
In a competitive retail environment, these elements play a critical role in shaping brand identity and in-store engagement.
Footasylum has built a strong position within youth and streetwear culture, with a clear focus on sneakers, fashion drops and lifestyle-driven retail. With a highly engaged audience and a fast-moving product cycle, our observations and suggestions could support and further enhance the in-store experience.
The in-store audio quality was strong, with a well-configured Bose speaker system delivering clear, balanced sound across the shop floor.
Music carried well throughout the space, with enough depth and bass to create energy without becoming overwhelming - a solid foundation for a brand operating in a music-driven category.
The playlist itself featured a mix of contemporary and familiar tracks, creating a generally engaging atmosphere. Staff feedback suggested the music was “good,” though there was a clear desire for more control or variety to keep things feeling fresh.
Across the store we visited, there was no use of digital signage, with the space instead making strong use of large-format lightbox visuals. These felt intentional and aligned with the brand’s aesthetic, creating impact and reinforcing campaign imagery effectively.
However, in a separate visit to the Oxford Street flagship, there was a much more expressive and varied use of signage - including more unique, standout visual elements that elevated the in-store experience and brought campaigns to life in a more dynamic way.
This contrast suggests a strong creative direction at flagship level, but an opportunity to bring more of that energy and consistency across the wider estate.
Build on the strong audio setup with a more curated, brand-led playlist strategy that reflects Footasylum’s position within streetwear and youth culture.
Introduce centrally curated playlists while allowing stores some flexibility to refresh tracks - keeping the experience consistent but culturally current.
Take inspiration from flagship locations like Oxford Street and introduce scalable signage solutions that bring more consistency and impact to every store.
